The idea for the project came from the daily work with young people, and young people played a key role in the development of the idea. We noticed certain needs of young people to which we would respond by implementing this project. According to our experience, young people want a stronger connection with the community and have a strong desire to (co) operate, but in on their own “rules” and under conditions of their choice. They are being motivated by activities that have an immediate, visible effect in the community. Prior to the application, DrONe conducted a survey on young people's attitudes about their own opportunities in Karlovac, as well as available content, opportunities and policies for young people. It was concluded that there is a reluctance of young people to get involved in organized forms of action (such as through associations), and that they show a tendency to engage in informal initiatives that do not have a legal character or even tend to be completely disorganized, or to engage in “one problem solving” activities certain and once the problem is solved and the goal is achieved, young people are "dissolved". Quite a number has mentioned that the promotion of art and independent culture are important for raising citizens' awareness on important topics. Research has shown that it is important for young people to talk about topics of interest and to make their peers and the community aware of issues that they perceive as important, and it is very important for them to be heard. The purpose of the project was to provide young people with the opportunity to perform on the "big stage" (the whole city) where they can express their interests in a way they want while making the community a more inclusive and safer place to live. More specific and most visible activity of the project was the removal of hate speech inscriptions from the walls of Karlovac streets together with raising public awareness of gender-based violence. In addition to the needs of young people, we recognized the needs of our organization, which were to increase influence and visibility in the community, to establish new collaborations with similar organizations and initiatives throughout the country, to strengthen organizing various initiatives for and with young people - to deal directly with young people and ensure that topics of importance to young people are not talked about and acted upon without young people. In summary, the main goal of the project was to implement community interventions through dialogue between young people and decision makers. The specific objectives of the project were: - To raise awareness of young people and the local community about hate speech and the importance of removing hate speech signs from the streets of Karlovac, - To raise awareness of gender-based violence and the presentation of the topic through art, - To build capacities of young people to implement community interventions, - Empowerment of the community to get involved in youth initiatives.
