Through this project, we aimed to raise awareness about the mental and emotional wellbeing challenges faced by youth workers and prevent burnout by enhancing peer support and supervision. We sought to improve the quality and innovation in youth work by developing tools that promote mindfulness and reduce stress. Additionally, we aimed to foster international collaboration and exchange good practices among partners. Ultimately, we wanted to empower youth workers by celebrating their role, promoting positive self-commitment, and enhancing their contributions to the community despite the pandemic’s challenges.
We applied for this project to address the rising issue of burnout among youth workers, especially exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal is to support "professional dreamers" like youth workers and community facilitators by providing them with tools and resources to manage their mental and emotional well-being. We aim to prevent burnout and enhance their capacity to continue fostering community cohesion and resilience effectively. Our project addresses several critical needs of youth workers, especially exacerbated by the pandemic. First, we are highlighting and addressing the increased mental health challenges faced by youth workers due to the pandemic, focusing on their mental and emotional well-being. Second, we aim to advocate for greater social and institutional recognition and validation of the roles and contributions of youth workers, recognizing their importance and impact. Third, we are developing tools and strategies for peer support and supervision to effectively prevent burnout. Finally, we believe in integrating playful and educational methods to relieve stress and promote a positive work environment, ensuring that youth workers can sustain their vital contributions to the community.
