Our main objective was to reform Spanish bilingual education by applying project pedagogy methods in the framework of an international project. We wanted to create real use situations for students so they could use the foreign language they learn during project activities and mobility. Finding and opening European dimensions by participating in an EU project. In addition to language competences, the study of generational differences, learning about forms of communication, and the research of changes in women's roles also was an important aim. To save slowly disappearing memories, objects, life paths from complete oblivion. To generate conversations between different generations and peoples. Our goal was that our students become more open, inclusive, and aware European citizens by getting to know others and their own culture by sharing learning experiences in other countries. Using digital forms of communication, to ensure regular contact between the students and teachers involved in the project from hosting and sending organisations.
Bolyai János Grammar School in Kecskemét is a public secondary school providing general education. It has classes with different profiles, one of them is the Spanish bilingual department, which has been operating for 17 years. Although the school has already participated in several Erasmus projects, this was the first opportunity for Spanish bilingual students. The school is located in a county seat, many of our students live in other villages or towns, in general, they have very diverse family backgrounds. They show a very diverse picture in terms of their learning motivation, interests and capacities. The online teaching period left a mark on everyone, but especially on this age group, whose impact still can be felt in the everyday life of the school. We designed the project as a continuation of the previous ones, as a further reflection on them and by adding a new language and contact opportunities, so the development of communication and mental health came into focus. The new forms of communication and work that have developed in the current world sometimes further deepen the generational gaps, so we decided to construct a bridge over them.
