We formulated our objectives in three points. Our first goal was to gain professional knowledge on how a healthy balance of online and offline teaching can be established, its implementation into everyday practice, and the sharing of acquired knowledge and experience. Our second objective aimed at strengthening interdisciplinary and professional co-operation in terms of quantity and quality with the help of project-based education methodology. As a result, we expected that the students' critical thinking and the ability to recognize connections would develop, as well as their problem-solving ability would strengthen. We formulated the third objective as how to support the spiritual and mental health of teachers and students possibly in a preventive way. We touched upon the "mindfulness" technique to acquire it. Our goal was to show both students and teachers the way how to find their own core and how to live the present moment in its integrity by using the right relaxation techniques and self-reflection.
The institution is a 12-grade primary and secondary school, located in Újpest, in a suburban area of Budapest. More than 800 students learn in three departments. Most of the students attending the primary department come from the enrolment area of the school, while the admitted students of the secondary department come from Újpest, the neighbouring districts and the agglomeration area. The students’ family backgrounds represent all levels of the society. The writing of our current Erasmus application was justified by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and the new needs and challenges that occurred in this situation. In connection with the pandemic, a difficult situation has also developed in education, both in terms of educational tasks and of participants. In terms of educational tasks, we changed overnight from face-to-face education to online education without any background, prior training, or experience, and we had to do effective work this way for a long time. In addition, the situation creates a serious mental and spiritual difficulties for all parties involved, teachers, students, and parents alike. In this situation, we feel the necessity to find and create a balance in the blended use of online and offline teaching.
