Objectives

The primary objective of the project was to improve the foreign language competencies of tourism students, the main goal was to develop oral communication skills. With the introduction of the Vocational Training Act, tourism technicians must have a complex type C intermediate-level language. We supplemented the school's language training with practical opportunities abroad, where students could practice oral communication in a direct foreign language environment. The second objective of the project was the acquisition of practical activities related to the tourism and catering industry exam, and the development of practical techniques of catering. The mobility also provided a kind of foundational training for the students, the knowledge acquired in the classroom and in the workshop could be developed at the host partner. The third objective of the project was the development of the students' competencies necessary for employment. The students entered a new work and study environment, solved communication and social situations, and achieved work and study results in a new environment. The fourth objective of the project was to develop the practical knowledge acquired by professional trainers in a corporate environment.

Background

Our institution is looking for opportunities that satisfy the learning and education needs of Generation Z, as well as opportunities that can help us bring the worlds of education and work closer together. With the entry into force of the Vocational Training Act, vocational training has changed, to which our school must also adapt. Our institutional goals include improving the quality and efficiency of education and training, and developing innovation and creativity at all levels of education and training – including the development of entrepreneurial skills. The labor market does not simply expect foreign language skills from our students, but a competence mix that includes, in addition to effective communication, an entrepreneurial approach, project thinking, and the ability to work in a team. We can only bring the worlds of education and work closer to each other if the instructors also become part of the competitive sector, possessing the competencies that are essential in order to pass on appropriate practical knowledge to their students.
