Objectives

“Who Do You Follow?” was a project that aimed to prepare youth for the digital transformation of our world. During the Web 2.0 era, our online world is based on interaction, and it is co-created by users. Everyone can provide content. As a consumer of the internet, it can be dangerous and overwhelming. As content providers, we have to become aware of the immense responsibility. The media era of Covid-19 had just proved again how impactful media sources could be, how content providers could be irresponsible, and how media consumers could become utterly confused and anxious, feeling not in control at all because of the lack of information and media literacy. The project aimed to increase participants' critical thinking, media literacy, and social media literacy skills. It aimed to enable participants to establish a healthy relationship with technology (especially social media) and allowed them to better navigate the online world. Additionally, the project aimed to plant the seeds of responsible content creation and took a step towards reducing disinformation. Furthermore, through the gradual empowerment of the participants during the youth exchange, the participants became multipliers of these skills and values, thus young people in their local communities also saw good examples and started developing themselves. In addition, the project also aimed to foster intercultural understanding and sensitivity as a skill, to gain a deeper insight into the participating countries’ cultures, and to improve the self-reflection of youngsters in order to support their development and lifelong learning.
