The "EQuip!" project was started to highlight the importance of understanding our own feelings and the feelings of others, which is called emotional intelligence or EQ. We noticed that some people are very smart in areas like math and science (this is called IQ) but might struggle with understanding feelings. On the other hand, some people are very good with feelings but might not score high on traditional tests. Both kinds of intelligence are important for a happy and successful life. The COVID-19 pandemic, a difficult time for many, showed us just how important it is to take care of our emotional health. People of all ages faced challenges, like not being able to go out or see friends. This made many feel trapped and stressed. Our project aimed to help people handle such feelings better. The main goal of "EQuip!" was to teach people the value of emotional intelligence, especially during hard times like losing a job or having to change daily habits suddenly. We wanted to make sure people knew how to look after their emotional health, especially when faced with big changes, like those brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. A big part of our project was focused on training young people who work with other youths. We believed that these young workers, because they are close in age to those they help, can understand and connect with them better. By teaching these workers about emotional intelligence, we hoped they would then help other young people learn about it too. We also wanted to involve teachers, schools, and people who make decisions about youth programs. We aimed to show them how important it is to teach young people about their feelings. By doing this, we hoped to prepare young people to become adults who can handle tough situations and support others. In the long run, our dream was to have a world where young people grow up understanding their feelings and the feelings of others. This would make our communities more understanding and kind.
