The objectives of the project, all of which were achieved, were as follows: 1. To develop a high quality, accessible, Global Citizenship Education module which allows full participation and creates a sense of solidarity between all participants so that they may begin a process of developing a sense of awareness that we live in one world, moving from local to global perspectives, allowing all to take part, and appreciate and respect diversity. 2. To harness the experience of our EU network of NGOs and in particular the skills of a well-respected Disability Organisation to assist in this process while at the same time benefiting from the cross-fertilisation of ideas and processes in the area of adult education in this sector. 3. To trial the training as a pilot project with people living with disability to ensure that it meets the objectives of accessibility as set out in the development stage. 4. To launch the training as part of VC’s disability inclusion strategy for its training programme.
VC applied for this project to bring the learnings of accessibility and inclusiveness in the area of disability to our work in general and to our training in particular. Prior to applying for this project VC had been networking with leading organisations within the disability sector as part of its involvement with the VIVID-T EU AVI project. These organisations included Abilis Foundation as well as a host of others including the European Disability Forum, CBM Global and Ireland and ASPEm. This project was undertaken to allow us to implement some of the recommendations emanating from this project around inclusion and disability for our sector and work. We addressed VC’s need to change and become more inclusive and aware of the area of disability in terms of our international development work generally but particularly in terms of our training programmes. In this regard this project was to change how Global Citizenship Education was presented and framed and to take into account the disability sector and their input and first-hand experience in this regard.
