Internationalisation is a strategic priority and is accorded a particularly high status in terms of UCC’s academic planning and development. The provision of student mobility opportunities remains a core activity of the Erasmus+ programme at UCC. UCC recognises the importance of the study abroad experience in relation to preparing its students for the world of work. Students who participate in Erasmus return with a greater global-mindedness and an awareness of their European identity. There is a significant improvement in their foreign language proficiency, they are more knowledgeable about the culture, politics, and society of their host country and they are better prepared in terms of employability than their peers who have not participated in the programme. UCC has also placed a strong emphasis on the strategic development of staff exchanges as a means of accessing specialised expertise found in partner institutions. The teaching staff element of the programme has provided opportunities for staff to engage with academic counterparts and students across a range of disciplines in partner institutions. UCC also wished to build on our excellent relationships with both our new partners but also our longstanding partners.
