We wanted to create a platform where students and teachers could share knowledge about environmental sustainability and climate change, hence the focus on using geospatial information to teach students about natural phenomena. We also wanted to enable teachers and students with a tool to enchance their digital skills, enabling them to follow the fast paced development of digital transformation. We set out with several objectives: 1. Create an interactive tool for online learning. 2. Giving students a tool where they could participate in knowledge creation, focusing on enviornmental teaching. 3. Build understanding about humanity‘s shared responsibility for the Earth‘s protection. 4. Develop content that would encourage and foster new methods of teaching and learning. 5. Promote creative and critical thinking skills. 6. Support the development of blended and online learning. 7. Encourage outdoor education.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the need for new technical solutions in education became evident as teaching and learning were moved online to a great extent. With this very fast transition to online and blended teaching, the world's education systems faced both challenges and opportunities. One need that became evident was the need for exciting and interactive tools for outdoor education. We wanted to address this need for an exciting outdoor education tool and an accompanying didactic concept. We also wanted to address the need for materials that would encourage students to be aware of the importance of environmental sustainability and to explore their own natural surroundings. Furthermore, we wanted to promote students' creative and critical thinking and build their digital skills and competencies.
