Objectives

The general objective was to respond to the need to improve the educational offer of our institute, in order to anticipate the needs of the labour market in terms of skills, facilitating the employability of our graduates in local companies. In order to satisfy this need, four objectives were identified that would improve as many aspects, thanks to the activities of key action 1 of the Erasmus+ programme. These objectives were: - Promotion of better inclusion of students in socio-economic, physical, cultural and geographical difficulties through their involvement in work-based learning mobility in Europe; - Strengthening the vocational, transversal and European citizenship skills of our fourth-year students; - Awareness-raising of the pupils of our institute on the central theme of environmental sustainability, particularly related to the use of technology and transport; - Training of teachers on the digitalisation of didactics for inclusive purposes and the teaching of environmental sustainability, by means of training courses in European organisations that are experts on these topics.

Background

Istituto Tecnico Tecnologico “Leonardo da Vinci” based in Viterbo represents one of the main reference institution for technical education in the province of Viterbo: the approximately 800 students who attend it, mainly male, can choose to specialise in Mechanics and Mechatronics, Energy, Informatics, Electrotechnics, Aeronautical Construction, Health Biotechnology and Construction Environment and Territory. The percentages of foreign students and students with fewer opportunities (BES, DSA, H) are above 10%. The student population mainly comes from around 60 municipalities in the Viterbo area, where the quality of life is high, but where it is difficult for our graduates to obtain employment in the sectors they specialise in, due to the absence of large technology companies, the few initiatives for collaboration between training and enterprise and, consequently, the difficulty of updating the training offer in order to meet the competences needs of the area. The project was undertaken starting from this background and the need to expand, modernise and integrate the institute’s training offer.
