Background

The Istituto Tecnico Economico Tecnologico 'Aldo Capitini' is a school located in Perugia that offers seven training courses in the economic and technological sectors. The school is attended by students with different socio-economic backgrounds, those with special educational needs are guided through a personalized educational path based on active learning and an inclusive approach. The area in which the institute is located faces several challenges including post-earthquake reconstruction, economic relaunch, the development of tourism and the Umbria brand, the green economy and digitalisation. The recent pandemic has worsened the situation in the region, severely affecting the tourist industry, which accounts for 20% of the regional GDP (ISTAT data). To face these challenges, the institute has decided to increase the knowledge on sustainable tourism and to internationalize the school through European learning mobility for students and school staff. The school is determined to continue improving its inclusion and internationalization strategies and focus on environmental education having an impact also on those students who do not physically travel abroad.
