Objectives

The project had as general objectives: 1. Increase the quality of teachers, trainers, educators, education professionals in the non-profit and non-profit fields, educating people to use digital tools and web opportunities with awareness and recognize manipulated information and fake news; 2. Create a community of organisations and actors involved in education and training to promote stronger action against the spread of fake news.

Background

The era of digital communication, social media, web-based information has opened up a sea of opportunities for European and world citizens in terms of access to information, going beyond existing channels such as television, paper newspapers and radio. The uncontrollability of the sources, the total freedom of access and the circulation of information have generated a difficult problem: many people have difficulty distinguishing reliable information from so-called "fake news". In the age of digital communication, the spread of fake news has become a phenomenon present in all countries, which can also influence even the choices of citizens and political consensus in democratic systems. This is an international phenomenon with sometimes very serious implications. In light of this, it has been more important than ever to promote and equip the key actors of the formation of tools and means that can help people to move in front of the myriad of information (often conveyed through slogans or a few lines without any deepening) which they can access on a daily basis.
