Background

The food delivery sector has seen a sharp increase over the past 5 years, but it is with the pandemic that the sector has seen a staggering increase in demand, suffice it to say that in 2020 alone it generated an increase in revenue of about 60%, tripling the number of food delivery app users compared to 2015. In 2020, the food delivery turnover in Italy reached 706 million euros with an increase of +19 percent compared to 2019 and saw the role of digital grow: about 25 percent of the entire food delivery sector is driven by online orders compared to 18 percent in 2019 (Source: Just Eat). However, the increase in demand for food delivery has led to increased use of food packaging to store and transport food. The New Jedi project builds on this contextual analysis to respond to the new needs of the restaurant industry and labor market in an innovative and environmentally sustainable way, fostering a reduction in the environmental impact associated with food delivery. The NEW JEDI project is designed to respond to the needs of the identified partnership and target groups.
