Objectives

The ECHOES project aimed to support training professionals in the VET system by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to employ digital methodologies, resources and tools for more effective online education. The specific objectives of the ECHOES project were: - to provide VET professionals with a comprehensive understanding on context, technologies, skills gaps, training needs in the field of online training - to provide VET professionals with a set of knowledge, skills and practical tools required to activate, manage, and monitor online learning pathways, ensuring that their skills align with the distinct teaching approaches typical of vocational education, such as: classroom and work-based learning; job tutoring and accompaniment to work; support for self-entrepreneurship and business creation. - to contribute to the creation of learning pathways at local, regional and national levels (and, possibly, the related recognition systems) for VET professionals, inspired to the relevant European Frameworks

Background

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, vocational education and training courses in Europe and worldwide were conducted, for varying durations depending on government decisions, exclusively or predominantly online and remotely. The usefulness of digital technologies became highly evident during this time. However, several gaps also emerged—not only technical/technological—within the capabilities of different VET systems to adopt these technologies or fully leverage their potential (Innovation and Digitalisation in VET, EC, 2021). Despite the widespread availability of platforms, educational resources, and digital online tools, many VET professionals felt uncomfortable with online teaching. The reasons varied: lack of digital skills; limited experience with online teaching methods; insufficient knowledge of pedagogies and tools for distance learning in the VET field. The ECHOES project was launched with the aim of supporting VET professionals (trainers, mentors, and tutors) in improving their knowledge and skills at various levels to deliver their courses online. This includes learning environments, teaching methodologies, tools tailored to VET and WBL systems, and inspired by EU Frameworks (particularly DigCompEdu) and digital resources
