ELEMENT was the result of a careful school-level reflection on the very identity that the Da Vinci school had to strengthen in the medium to long term. Thinking about the words with which they wanted the Institute to be described, the first three were: 1. Including 2. Innovative 3. International. These three words corresponded to the three areas of needs that emerged as a result of the analysis, identifying the reasons on which the project design was based, and they represented, at the same time, the objectives to be achieved, which were: OB1- Promoting "the full development of the person," guaranteeing the realization of the right to study, the development of full potential, and the recovery from situations of disadvantage. OB2- Improving the digital skills of teachers and pupils and promoting full digital citizenship, being aware of the risks and opportunities of ICT. OB3-Implementing the qualification and internationalization of the training offer, contributing to the construction of the European education space.
The challenge to inclusive education was a priority in our context: implementing the skills aimed at inclusion in a broader change management process was a priority. The school only partially succeeded in guaranteeing educational success, highlighting the need to develop teaching methodologies more responsive to the real learning needs of pupils. It was impossible to postpone new strategies to prevent and fight educational failure with the experimentation of new, more "student-centered" teaching approaches. Secondly, the pressures on digital literacy and conscious digital citizenship exerted by the pandemic placed a fundamental emphasis on the role of ICT in education, on the issue of online security and cybersecurity. Indeed, technologies were undoubtedly an opportunity, but they also hid many risks. Finally, the international dimension of the Institute needed to be developed.
