Due to the cultural diversity and the socio-economical needs of foreign students in our school, one of the most important challenges is to guarantee the same opportunities as other teenagers with more resources. For this reason, we consider that, this project, is important for the personal growth and training of all our students, especially disadvantaged ones. This would give such students the opportunity to travel to other countries to learn and share new cultures and feel part of a bigger world. This project will also improve autonomy, and in addition, improve linguistic competences. Not only will the ITC tools used in this project improve the performance of our students, but their use will reduce the technological gap between the less fortunate students and the more fortunate ones. Again, thus creating a more equal society with equal opportunities for all. The main aim of this project is the bridging of intercultural, intergenerational and social division by placing side by side different students from different cultures and helping them grow together in a new developed technological world.
IISS "Luigi Russo" is a public secondary school in the city of Caltanissetta categorized as a maximum complexity school. 25.5% of the students are of foreign nationality and, currently, around 15% of our students are of immigrant origin, coming from more than 10 different nationalities. To manage this cultural, educational and linguistic diversity, the center has a Welcome Classroom for newcomers, a GLI team (Gruppo di Lavoro per l'Inclusion), which is based on the Curricular Diversification Program which deals with monitoring, suggesting and checking of inclusive activities and finding solutions for integration. Inclusion measures taken for students with disabilities, learning disorders, and social and economic needs are the center of our thoughts. Every year the school has tackled problems regarding inclusive awareness by including topics such as discrimination, racism, bullying, isolation and integration, in the three year educational plan.
