Objectives

Critical issues identified through the RAV (Periodic School Self-Assessment Report), INVALSI (National school survey to identify areas of studies to be improved)test results, and unflattering positions in the EDUSCOPIO 2019 results had revealed four major difficulties in our institute concerning academic achievement, European key competences, language skills and distance learning results. This project aimed to: -promote policies of inclusion and motivation in order to improve school results and reduce the number of drop-outs in the institute's second and fourth classes; improve distance results through an international school and career guidance action that would raise language learning and computer standards to develop citizenship skills, curiosity and resilience through training based on knowledge and comparison with other cultures so as to improve transversal skills and better interact in social and work contexts; to help our young people to still perceive Europe as a Centre of aggregation, support and impetus for a quality educational pathway

Background

The "Alfano I" secondary school in Salerno is attended by 1314 Students divided into five areas of learning: foreign languages, science, dance, music and humanities. The greater part of the students, aged between 13 and 18, come from urban and suburban areas with a low to medium socio-economic background. Recently, the institute has witnessed a gradual and steady increase in enrollment from EU and non-EU students to whom activities have been directed to foster inclusion, remediation and enhancement of skills and competencies. The institute has recently opened up to Europe, participating in Erasmus + (short-term mobility and strategic partnerships), cultural exchanges, TransAlp’s students exchanges and intercultural projects. The recent spread of the pandemic event has affected the work and economic situation of a significant part of the school population leading to a further aggravation of the needs of our area and causing in students a sense of distrust and loss of European values. The institute's curriculum is integrated through the implementation of curricular and extracurricular initiatives and projects and internship (PCTO actions) in cooperation with public and private bodies, associations, regional and national theatres.
