Preventing early school leaving and failure in educationDigital skills and competencesNew learning and teaching methods and approaches

Objectives

To address the reported needs, the project had set two objectives: 1. Enhance inclusion and educational success, addressing the disadvantage of learning, early school leaving and the low level of basic skills, and promoting excellence in key subjects 2. Promote the digital transition by integrating technologies and enhancing digital skills for their more efficient, effective and responsible use in teaching and at school in general. The project aimed to provide methodological and digital skills necessary for teachers, staff and, as a final target, students to promote and take advantage of the most innovative and inclusive teaching, able to put everyone at the center of the processes, to achieve greater well-being and educational success, a higher level in basic skills, and to integrate technologies in school. Finally, the institute wanted to improve the collaboration and involvement of all the actors of the school: staff, students, parents and local community.

Background

The Intitute IS Galiani in Naples welcomes students from socially, culturally and economically deprived backgrounds. Many are struggling to reach the thresholds of sufficiency, too many repeat year or drop out of school. The Covid-19 emergency has widened the problems at school. Teachers often propose traditional methods and frontal and “transmissive” lessons, ICTs are used in a static and limited way. There is a need for greater educational inclusion and innovation and a digital transformation of the school. The training actions proposed so far have not been sufficient to face the difficulties. The school therefore believes that it is necessary to propose more incisive, targeted and broader training experiences, but above all capable of stimulating teachers to implement new methodological and digital skills and capable of leading students towards inclusion and better learning results, involving in the change the whole school. With this Erasmus+ project the institute wanted to respond to the needs and challenges listed above.
