Objectives

Through the rover project, we wanted to undertake a training path that: 1. would provide the teaching staff with the skills to introduce and adopt the CLIL methodology within the training offer of our Institute; 2. would improve digital skills to combine them with the CLIL methodology. Digital technologies are, today and in our context, indispensable to teaching. By allowing the use of images, sounds, and logical associations, they facilitate the learning process, allowing students to actively use them and shape them according to their specific needs. Combined with the CLIL methodology, they will allow you to acquire the tools to teach not only English but also the other curricular disciplines in a transversal and inclusive way and create a training offer that can adapt to the needs of the individual student, allowing everyone to achieve the educational objectives; 3. would improve the language skills of teaching staff to encourage participation in international projects and facilitate collaboration with other European Schools.

Background

The Istituto Comprensivo Camera is characterized by highly varied demographics in terms of geographical origin and cultural characteristics. The percentage of students of foreign origin is significantly above the national average. Many of them speak Italian as a second language, thus having difficulty fully using the domestic vehicular language. This, as a result, affects the learning outcomes, as it creates language barriers that do not allow the full achievement of curricular results. To overcome this problem, there was a need to implement actions that, 1. would facilitate learning paths, using methodologies that disregard the mother tongue of each and adapt to the specific needs of the pupils; 2. provide vertical continuity in the provision of training, both from the point of view of content and methodologies, to facilitate learning in a logical sequence for the pupils. One of the actions was the rover project, created to provide a training path that would allow teaching staff to acquire the skills necessary for the implementation of the CLIL methodology in our Institute.
