The project's main goal was to provide PhD students with high-quality mobility experiences abroad, leading to personal and professional growth and the establishment of new professional and scientific connections. More specifically, the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca (a public postgraduate school and research institute est. 2005) aimed at enhancing its doctoral students' competences (including their transversal and forward-thinking skills), boost their personal development, establish or consolidate networks with partners of different organisations, cultures, and countries, and increase their post-doc career prospects and participation in democratic life. As stated by Alexander Hasgall, head of the European Council for Doctoral Education, “the sharing of ideas, knowledge and skills across borders and continents contributes to shaping well-rounded scholars and professionals that can address a multiplicity of emerging global issues”. The establishment and consolidation of collaborative networks also extend the IMT School's reputation as a young research institute and interdisciplinary postgraduate school devoted to study in specific fields of interest (analysis of economic, societal, technological, and cultural systems).
