Founded in 1997, The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (Libera Università di Bolzano / Freie Universität Bozen, unibz) - located in the main town of South Tyrol, Northern Italy, a unique land where Italian and German language and culture coexist - is characterized by a strong international vocation and multilingualism (with study programmes in German, English, Italian and even Ladin). The university's international population encompasses 13.4% (national average is 4.3%) of the 4,374 students enrolled as well as 31% of the teaching staff. Study programmes are distributed among five faculties. Besides promoting in-house internationalization, unibz believes that mobility and international cooperation are equally important. Through the Erasmus action, unibz supports and enhances the mobility of students, teaching and administrative staff, as a means of personal development and professional lifelong learning. Through its networking with partner universities unibz has become an active participant in the large European Higher Education Area (EHEA). According to the latest monitoring agency "AlmaLaurea" figures, 19.6% of the university's graduates have concluded at least one mobility abroad during their studies (national average is 9%).
