The BLOSSOM (Building Learning Opportunities to Support Small Organisations for Multiculturalism) project was designed to strengthen the operational capacities of the small cultural association Katabba located in a remote and isolated area, in order to be able to collaborate with other organisations at the European level. In this way, the Katabba cultural association acquired the tools to be an active player in transnational cultural initiatives.
The BLOSSOM project stems from the need of Katabba, a small cultural association located in the municipality of Monforte San Giorgio (inland Sicily and an area cut off from the major tourist flows), to increase its transnational dimension. Over the years, the Katabba association has tried in various ways to expose itself internationally by organising cultural events, but so far, its activities have only a local relevance. During the preparation phase, several barriers that Katabba association has encountered over the years were identified. These barriers were described in detail in the form sent out to apply for the grant. The ESSEI partner, a small Belgian organisation with more experience in international and Erasmus projects, helped Katabba to develop a project that met its needs.
