As an overarching objective, a strategy to combat obesity and eating disorders among EU citizens working remotely, together with a unified approach to promote best practices, was to be initiated. The specific objectives of the project were: 1)To understand and analyse the relationship between the obesity problem and sedentary, poor and disordered eating, the importance of healthy and sustainable nutrition and physical activity 2) To address the psychological aspect of the obesity problem and the effects of social exclusion due to this critical issue and linked to the increased use of telecommuting 3) To implement an "ad hoc" training programme and a sharing of best practices 4) disseminate the experience of "ad hoc" training, verifying the effectiveness of all the actions implemented to combat the criticality of obesity due to the sedentary nature of teleworking
In 2020 the COVID-19 pandemic led to severe restrictions in Europe and worldwide, including the closure of non-essential activities due to increased infections and deaths. A significant impact was the significant increase in teleworking among employees. Although teleworking has had advantages and disadvantages for health, a serious problem that has emerged is obesity, with its associated risk of musculoskeletal disorders, metabolic diseases, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. The World Health Organisation has predicted a future 'obesity pandemic' by 2030, as many people spend hours at home, in isolation, with little exercise and a more sedentary lifestyle. This project was created to address obesity in these circumstances. It focused on aspects such as physical activity, education, management, psychological and dietary aspects. Research, surveys and experiments were used to develop best practice recommendations online, actively involve the target audience and create a common strategy to tackle obesity, eating disorders and lack of physical activity among European citizens working from home.
