Objectives

The ROaD EducatiOn project aims to achieve several key objectives: - Enhance road safety awareness among secondary school students by equipping them with the knowledge and skills to make safe and responsible decisions in traffic environments. - Develop innovative educational tools that integrate a. driving simulator, digital resources, and interactive methodologies to make road safety education engaging and effective. - Foster inclusivity by ensuring that educational materials and activities are accessible to all students, including those with different abilities. - Empower teachers through specialized training, enabling them to deliver high-quality, impactful road safety education. - Promote a culture of safety within school communities by encouraging active participation from students and teachers. By achieving these goals, the project aims to reduce traffic-related risks and foster safer behaviors, ultimately contributing to a decrease in accidents involving young people.

Background

We applied for the ROaD EducatiOn project to improve road safety education among secondary school students. They deal with traffic on a daily basis, as pedestrians, riders, drivers or car/bus passengers; however, they have lower awareness about the risks of being road users than older ones. This causes traffic accidents to be a leading cause of injury and death among young people. Considering that many countries have limited instruments promoting a proper engagement of high school, the project addresses the following needs: -Improve young people consciousness about the causes of road accidents -Raise awareness about road safety also providing the point of view of problem faced by people with diverse sensori-motor or cognitive abilities -Create engaging, and inclusive educational programs related to road and safety education -Set good practice among young road users -Improve the use of digital technologies in civic education programs -Offer teachers innovative materials to integrate road safety education into their curricula -Directly involve students to build their personalized learning experience -Expose students to the road risks through interaction with people who have experienced the consequences of traffic accidents
