With the implementation of this project, we wanted to cultivate and empower the sense of acceptance, inclusiveness, open-mindedness, and solidarity in young people towards different nationalities, religions, and socio-economic groups. Led by the difficulty of modern societies to accept diversity, even though they consist of people coming from different ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds our goal was to motivate and engage young people and equip and empower them with the needed skills and competences for supporting and standing up for all those vulnerable groups who are often being marginalized and excluded from society and its processes and contribute to their integration. By raising awareness about this issue, we achieved to make young people become more empathetic, be actively involved in their local communities, make a difference in their communities, and have an impact, raise their voices when it comes to their rights, and support and stand up for others when they see injustice or violation of human rights. Moreover, we contributed to the encouragement of society to improve its role in helping people to feel welcomed, accepted and gain a sense of belonging and identity when settling into a new place and community. In addition, we aimed through this project to contribute and corresponded to one of the set priorities of Erasmus+ Programme and European Commission for young people, which is “Inclusion and Diversity” and the provision of equal opportunities for the educational, professional, and personal development of youth through non-formal and informal education. We managed to achieve that through 1) including young people from ethnic minorities and youngsters with social/ educational/ economic, and geographical obstacles, 2) promoting the learning mobility of individuals and groups, as well as cooperation, quality, inclusion and equality, excellence, creativity and innovation at the level of organizations and policies in the field of education and training, 3) promoting non-formal and informal learning mobility and the active participation of youth, as well as cooperation, quality, inclusion, creativity, and innovation. The objectives of our project were: • To foster a greater and inclusive sense of belonging and identity. • To promote a sense of tolerance among young people. • To enhance the importance of diverse values like the importance of maintaining pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity, and equality. • To empower young people to find their own way in life. • To effectively communicate and cooperate in order to reach common goals in an international environment and develop common values. Through our project we offered to participants a safe learning environment and space where they could express themselves without fear, share ideas and points of view, learn from each other, and together find out the best ways to combat exclusion. For achieving all these, we used interactive tools and methods of non-formal education such as teamwork, brainstorming, role plays, debates, simulations, reflection, and evaluation. Participants learnt to respect cultural diversity and foster mutual understanding between people from different countries, to be open-minded, tolerant and empathetic, and to handle conflict situations, especially in multicultural communities. In addition, they became more resilient to life’s difficulties and strong and motivated enough to be actively involved in their local communities. Within this international atmosphere, we also tackled and discussed different aspects of international voluntary projects and activities and their requirements, and we highlighted other issues that can emerge or can be directly related to leading an international and local youth project. What we can confirm in any case in that for making a different in our society, we need to empower cooperation among organizations and take the lead; and this is what we did through the implementation of this project.
