The COVID-19 pandemic has left a great footprint on every aspect of our lives. Based on age groups, the pandemic restrictions have been experienced in distinct ways. For young people, and especially for vulnerable youth, the COVID-19 crisis posed considerable risks in the fields of education and especially mental health. A sedentary lifestyle due to the pandemic situation composed of watching TV, spending long hours on social networks, or playing video games generated a lack of active involvement of young people in the collective life of the community and outdoor activities. Research on the topic has been done by the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (2020), mentioning that outdoor play and nature-based activities are efficient tools to help youngsters cope with major stressors caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This learning mobility “Re-connecting with Nature” has been organized by all partner organizations with a clear plan of activities and measures to foster youth participation through outdoor activities, healthy lifestyle, and environmental protection, as a potential for sustainability for the future at the local level. In the process of the project’s drafting, it was analyzed how the Pandemic situation influenced different groups of ages. The main objective of the project were to foster young people’s healthy lifestyles, promote outdoor activities, raise awareness of environmental protection, and bring young people closer to nature. Furthermore, it was foreseen to equip the participants with skills for outdoor and experiential education including preparation of activities, risk assessment, health and safety measures through outdoor methods; to reflect on the learning benefits of using outdoors: health, lifestyle, connection to nature, protection of the environment, eco-friendly manner towards life; to increase youth participation of young people through outdoor activities organized at the European and local level; to develop further cooperation of participating organizations in the field of outdoor and experiential education. The project responded to young people’s need for participation in outdoor activities and enhanced the culture of a healthy lifestyle, especially considering the negative effect caused by the pandemic situation. Taking into consideration the positive feedback of the young people collected through the evaluations all along the project, and the results obtained and disseminated, we can affirm that the objectives of the project have been totally reached.
