Objectives

The key objectives of the S.H.E.L.L. project (Sustainable Hospitality Environnement Laboratory for Life) were to impart knowledge and skills on climate change and sustainable development through the very powerful medium of the arts. The project provided us with an intercultural space to discuss and concretely experience attitudes consistent with environmental issues through artistic, theatrical and musical activities. The Erasmus+ Programme aims to increase mobility opportunities in green and future-oriented fields. For this reason, the project was set in the community of Casaletto Spartano, which hosts the Capelli di Venere nature oasis and is located in the Cilento National Park. Immersed in nature, the SHELL project allowed us to experiment with a more sustainable lifestyle, enabling us all to experience its benefits in a concrete way, which we could then bring back to our personal sphere at the end of our mobility. Through the SHELL project, we were able to share ideas, opinions and information about the impact that less sustainable habits have on nature and the ecosystem. At the same time, we stimulated reasoning and discussions on more sustainable consumption choices. In a progressive and experiential approach, we practised low-impact habits in order to understand possible difficulties and found solutions by discussing them together in a rich, multicultural environment. The SHELL project also increased attention and knowledge of the possibilities and benefits that outdoor initiatives generate on a physical and psychological level. In fact, in addition to reflecting on and discussing sustainability, we experienced the benefits of the choices made during the project activities thanks to its low environmental impact structure. The great opportunity to create a multicultural context allowed the development, first of all, of metalinguistic skills that facilitated communication through playful and informal activities. But above all, it was an opportunity to develop one's intercultural awareness, European richness and tolerance, and respect for everyone's cultural expression. The learning process took place through art, theatre and music. In fact, the arts allow for a sensory approach to nature and to ourselves, in order to achieve the SHELL project's goals of sustainability and environmental protection.
