With the project SMART democracy we were aiming to achieve the following objectives: - Increase and promote a renovate participation of the young people from rural areas in the democratic life; - Spread EU values and identities in different areas of EU, espcially in rural areas; - Create spaces and raise awareness about democratic participation with young people. To get this kind of activity going, we decided to start a project that would use new, mostly digital tools for active participation (not just voting) to help young people from 5 countries stay in touch and share ideas about how local communities can grow. The main objectives that we were willing to achieve from the project are in line with the E+ guide, such as: - Promote participation in the democratic life; - Promote social inclusion and cooperation among young people from rural areas of the EU; Promote educational activities using a digital tool made to be part of a digital transformation in our communities. We follow Hart's process, with a focus on the final step: "help and support young people and target groups to be coordinators and supporters of new social ideas, and that, together with decision-makers." In fact, by putting on activities with the help of local decision-makers, the youth felt much more a part of the rural community, and they also had a better understanding of the problems that cause social problems in rural areas. The project was created to help young people lead and manage a democratic process of discussion with mayors, school directors, and peers, as well as to address issues and needs that may affect common areas but are spread throughout the EU.
