By raising the competencies required for the organization of STEAM education abroad, primary school teachers sought to adopt international experience, which they used to improve the quality of STEAM education in our school. With this project, we aimed to improve the competencies of teachers so that STEAM research projects in primary education would cover all areas, not only natural sciences. Having installed new STEAM spaces related to the possibilities of using technology and engineering equipment, we started to strengthen these areas as well. Our teachers improved their abilities to create interdisciplinary STEAM projects, use various programs for early information technology and programming education, applied games in the educational process, delved into EU goals in various areas of STEAM education.
Alytus Panemune pro-gymnasium implements the programs of general education: pre-school, primary and the first part of basic education. The priority direction of strengthening the activities of the pro-gymnasium is improving the quality of STEAM education, promoting internationality. The goals and activities of this project are focused on raising the qualifications of subject pedagogues working in pre-school education, and primary education in the field of STEAM education. In 2020, the school became a member of the STEAM school network. Integrated STEAM classes, non-formal children's education are organized, students are introduced to STEAM professions, STEAM competitions and Olympiads are participated. However, during the preparation of the STEAM strategy, SWOT analysis, evaluation of teachers' long-term STEAM and students' exploratory engineering projects, it became clear that primary school teachers still lack theoretical knowledge and necessary competences for quality STEAM education in the fields of engineering and technology.
