Objectives

Taking into account the needs of the gymnasium community, we have set two main goals: - To develop teachers' social and emotional competences, which will open the door to productive work with students of diverse needs and abilities in the environment of inclusive education; - To help students acquire and successfully use social and emotional competences. While implementing the project, we aimed for the professional development of teachers in the field of social and emotional competences to create conditions for organizing the enabling process of inclusive education; teachers would be able to recognize the differences and opportunities of students, organize the process of student-oriented education, and create a safe and motivating educational environment. We wanted the teachers participating in the project to grow emotionally. An emotionally mature teacher makes children feel special, safe and secure in the classroom, infects students with positive energy, is the best example for the student, does not avoid changes, has no prejudice, lacks creativity, actively reflects, is able to establish and maintain personal relationships with students and their parents.

Background

Druskininkai "Rytas" Gymnasium is a state secondary school that provides quality education services according to the second part of the basic education programme and the secondary education programme (since 2001). Great attention is paid to the personal development and self-expression of students and the professional development of teachers. In order to better organise the educational process, the gymnasium community distinguishes two most important needs: 1) to provide teachers with the opportunity to acquire the competencies necessary for working with students of various abilities in the conditions of inclusive education; 2) to create favourable conditions for each student to develop according to needs and possibilities.
