The following goals were set to be achieved as the result of the project implementation: * improved understanding of staff involved in coordination and planning of the adult learning in relation to the principles of adult learning, creation of the programme offer and attraction of learners; * improved teachers' understanding regarding development of learning programmes adapted for adults, as well as their contents and improved skills of training adult learners. The achievement of these goals would help to develop the field of adult learning in Daugavpils Technical School of Technologies and Tourism by increasing the number of learners and offering new learning and training programmes.
Daugavpils Technical School of Technologies and Tourism (former Daugavpils Technical School) is a state-founded educational institution; its main goal is to ensure implementation of vocational education programmes. As stated in Section 12 of the School Regulations, Daugavpils Technical School of Technologies and Tourism can implement interest and adult non-formal as well as other education programmes according to the school's confirmed thematic fields. Since adult education was not strong enough in Daugavpils Technical School of Technologies and Tourism and, according to the school's development priorities set in the Development Strategy, the overall offer of non-formal and further vocational education is insufficient for successful development of adult learning and attraction of new adult learners; this is the reason why it was necessary to improve knowledge and competence of the school's staff both in planning and implementation of adult learning.
