Objectives

According to the Eurydice report 2020, although North Macedonia has made a big step in improving itself in areas like education and training, there are many further measures to be taken. As a country, we are fairly prepared to develop an inclusive and quality education process since we invest poorly in the education system and reinforced training is needed for teachers and associates to improve their capacities for student assessment. Regrettably, our education system is susceptible to political influence and corruption which significantly lower its quality. Even nowadays, we regret to report that there is still a division on a national basis and our education system suffers from limitations in access for all children. COVID-19 has, to put it lightly, impacted the process negatively highlighting our country’s inability to establish a functional model of education. Strikes by the education staff and the students, too, have degraded the quality of Macedonian education with the students missing a big portion of their lessons and not receiving educational compensation for them. There is always hope for improvement (also confirmed by international testing results where North Macedonia has made a leap), so we are investing in our youth by providing non-formal education and the tools and methods to help youngsters to further their education outside the classroom. Along with education, the economy has also been affected by Covid-19, and a further blow is the economic crisis that the war in Ukraine and the gas and electricity restrictions have caused. North Macedonia has been losing its human capital to foreign countries with better employment opportunities and better mitigation measures in place. The environment has been a thorn in our lungs, and with the change of seasons, pollution has placed Skopje at the top of the list of the world’s most polluted cities. Again. Tragically, instead of working with nature, we have been finding ways to work against it adding to our dependence on fossil fuels. Therefore, we have been suffering the consequences. Severely. It is of utmost urgency to start policy-implementing actions more devotedly as advocated by numerous environmentalists and activists in order to steer our country in the direction of sustainability and with that result in a healthier and more independent future for our population. The more we destroy nature, the more we destroy ourselves. We can see the impact on our general health as a country, on our economy and on how this affects the most vulnerable categories of people. It is of essential value to have robust, healthy and engaged youth, and the Programme offers invaluable opportunities to boost youth participation and engagement. We work with youngsters by creating space for participation, and possibilities for growth, and connecting them with like-minded youths to help them become youth leaders, future entrepreneurs, and people capable of creating, developing and leading a progressive and sustainable society. This project had three objectives aligned with our accreditation: 1. We aimed to provide open learning opportunities primarily to youngsters to push their education and training, and so become quality human capital that impacts their communities in all areas of life in a meaningful way. We aimed to further youngsters’ skills and competences to make sensible decisions, get quality employment and develop their community. 2. We aimed to create youth leaders of the new generation by helping young people to build self-confidence, foster their entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and innovativeness and increase their skills for youth work through executing comprehensive activities that harnessed their potential. Moreover, we targeted the development of such skills and competences to help the participants generate employment prospects for themselves and their peers, to assume an active role in their communities so as to develop the economy, too. By connecting them with decision-makers they will be able to get involved in the decision-making processes at the local, regional and national levels thus strengthening the civil sector. 3. We aimed at the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities by integrating such youths into our activities and also creating further activities and initiatives through our project for such individuals. Also, we strived to strengthen the positive idea of the EU, especially in these times when xenophobia, nationalism and exclusion are on the rise. Our project has contributed to the achievement of the EU Youth Strategy and the umbrella Youth Strategy 2030 of the United Nations to a certain extent by giving an opportunity to youths to have their voices heard and incorporating their input into our activities, by connecting them and providing a space for cooperation, innovation and growth.
