Objectives

Every project we have developed under Erasmus+ youth offers unique learning opportunities for young and adult learners alike. Our aim is to influence social and economic development through education. With its activities, Jasna Idnina took the opportunity to shed light on and channel the needs of local youngsters and the requirements of modern European society. The state of the young people in the country and the key issues they face, which prevent them from reaching their potential and becoming productive constituents of our society, inspired this project. Key challenges are: 1. UNEMPLOYMENT (35% to 80% in some municipalities). A defeating consequence is that young people remain unemployed for long periods of time (1-3 years after leaving the education system). They depend on their parents, and more than 90% live with them during and long after they finish their education. A large contributor to this situation is the disparity between the skills gained at school and the private sector needs. 2. EDUCATION – Macedonia is among the last countries in literacy. The teaching curricula are characterized by old-fashioned teaching methods, inadequate breadth or depth of subjects taught, and a lack of relevance to life skills and the labor market of today. According to Eurydice and the EU report, North Macedonia is moderately prepared in this area to join the European Union. Among other recommendations, the country should improve access to quality education for all, especially children with disabilities and other marginalized groups. 3. EXCLUSION – Due to widespread prejudices and discrimination, many young people (1/3 and even more among LGBTI and Roma youth) are unable to attain their rights to education and health and do not enjoy full access to social services. Young people’s mental health poses a great concern. There are a lot of fears and anxieties about the future and negative consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. Sadly, there is still no developed system to properly tackle youngsters’ mental health needs. Few youngsters participate in civil society and solidarity activities and not many think that political and civil society participation is important. 71% of young people do not believe that their voice matters. Exclusion is the food for violence among young people too. 4. VIOLENCE – Schools are increasingly becoming places where violence occurs, which spills over into other areas of life for young people. School violence applies to ethnically mixed schools first and foremost, and it overflows into other segments of society. Any action must consider what is tolerated and to what extent. We focused on four distinct objectives in this project: 1. Inclusion and equity through cooperation for active participation and creating a strong society; 2. education, creativity, and entrepreneurship for social and economic gain by reducing the gap between the formal education youngsters receive and the requirements of the contemporary labor market; 3. acknowledgement of all forms of education and learning thus promoting alternative forms of education and participation supporting marginalized groups and promoting lifelong learning and re-qualification; 4. Self-awareness and healthy living to fight exclusion. Through the work Jasna Idnina does, is also developing and strengthening the youth sector in Macedonia starting from the local community and spreading throughout the country. For the team of Jasna Idnina, Erasmus is a door to building capacities in the form of the exchange of good practices with our international colleagues, support in training our members and staff, and providing help and support to newcomer organizations because that is a unique way to self-improve and spread our influence. Thanks to the project activities, we have encouraged and empowered young people to act, produce activities, exchange good practices and cooperate with other young people and stakeholders. In this project, we brought together young people from many countries regardless of their national, religious, educational, social or economic belonging and ensured equity between them when fostering mutual cooperation, engagement in learning activities and support. Our activities had an educational character, and we focused on non-formal education to empower young people, youth workers and members of the local community to develop entrepreneurship in an innovative way while tapping into funding provided by our institutions and EU sources. Our activities taught the people involved to recognize their capabilities and uniqueness as a means to take advantage of and create education and employment opportunities for self-development and personal and social progress. With the work we did, and are continuing to do, we are affirming our position as a regional youth center that provides advisory services for youngsters, educational activities, and development opportunities and fosters the inclusion of people with obstacles.
