Climate change is a global challenge for the worldwide population. Unsustainable human behaviour is constantly putting the Earth in danger, leading to environmental degradation, human health issues, global warming, ozone layer depletion, infertile lands, and much more. Thus, finding a remedy is a top priority. According to the European Environment Agency (2020) report "The European environment — state and outlook 2020", despite the success of the EU environmental policies, Europe's environment's outlook is discouraging. Almost 20 % of the EU's urban population lives in air pollutant concentrations above at least one EU air quality standard (2019). Human health and well-being are still affected by noise pollution, hazardous chemicals, and climate change. Furthermore, the World Health Organization (2017) states that in the future, between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250 000 additional deaths per year from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and heat stress alone. That is why it is fundamental to start a societal transition toward a green economy and lifestyle. To do this, youth organizations from 4 organizations from North Macedonia, Spain and Serbia with various environmental issues have united for this project. THE MAIN AIM OF THE PROJECT was headed toward a change in the European population's behavior and habits to achieve an ecofriendly lifestyle. We believe that the change has to come from youth; thus, a youth exchange - "Next Green Generation" was hosted in Republic of North Macedonia on 23-29 October 2022 (+ 2 travel days) involving 16 participants both from European countries. To reach the key aim of the project mentioned above, the following OBJECTIVES were set: increase awareness about environmental issues both locally (in Berovo) and globally; identify the most common negative outcomes of people's unsustainable habits, and find ways to tackle them; promote an eco-sustainable behavior; encourage a proactive approach toward green initiatives. By seeking these objectives, youth development goals were also achieved. Namely, were achieved these goals: • we helped the participants to increase their social responsibility towards environmental safeguard; • we involved the youth in discussions and decision-making about eco-friendly actions in an international environment; • we kept the youth active and help them learn how to put ideas into actions; • enhanced their social skills and multilingualism, and stimulate cultural exchange. These objectives go in line with the key aims of Erasmus+ KA1 action, which specifically seek to support the acquisition of learning outcomes to improve youth personal development and their involvement as active citizens in society. Another objective of the project was to raise the wider public’s awareness about the current environmental situation. Thus, the project included active results' dissemination activities as one of its primary goals to reach a wider audience of various ages in project countries. For example: a) Dissemination of photos taken in Berovo were used to show the consequences of unsustainable habits (i.e., production of waste, pollution, etc.); b) usage of social media, blogs, and press releases to disseminate the materials mentioned above and environmentally friendly ideas to the public; c) Carrying follow-up actions in each partner country to raise social awareness about environmental issues in their local communities. We believe the project directly contributes to the main objectives of the growth strategy "European Green Deal" (European Commission, 2021), which aims at: Tackling climate and environmental challenges that are this generation's defining task. Protect, conserve, and enhance the EU's natural capital and protect citizens' health and well-being from environment-related risks and impacts. These goals will be discussed explicitly during the youth exchange to decide how youth can help achieve them through international cooperation. Lastly, the project we believe that this project positively impact eco-friendly lifestyles to the local youth communities from North Macedonia, Spain and Serbia which align with Erasmus+ priorities.
