Objectives

To further develop the competencies of educators in the area of inclusive education and diversity and to explore further methods of instruction. To nurture and support educators who are tolerant and accepting of diverse backgrounds, and different social realities. To have educators who are socially competent and adaptive and more flexible. To further promote the developmental and professional growth of educators through broadening their experience of different educational settings in an international context. Through positive exposure to courses and through meeting professionals from different countries our educators will understand that there are different social contexts all over the world and they will explore methods how these can be addressed in class. This programme will help educators to embark on a developmental journey that will help them grow both professionally and personally. Hopefully, they will find the time to reflect on their practice and on the way their own nurture might influence their teaching and their classroom environment. Such courses will help them become more insightful and reflective practitioners.

Background

Our school is situated within an area that is known for its social deprivation, including poverty, low socioeconomic status and poor levels of education. The main underlying problem that gives rise to other serious challenges is the poor social background of this Community. As an Educational Organization we find ourselves dealing with parents and children who live in constant need of emotional support. We carry out assessments and ensure that our students whilst keeping in mind that all children have different learning styles, needs and abilities. We cater for mixed ability classes and provide opportunities of success for all our students. Our educators need to embrace diversity in all its aspects. They need to respect and appreciate what makes people in a Community different especially in terms of social, cultural and educational background. We want our educators to recognise these differences and learn to collaborate with people with different cultural backgrounds. We want a stronger bridge between the school and the home. Hopefully we eradicate any traces of social stigma and prejudice. Our Organisation will promote teacher-parental collaboration through dialogue, teamwork and mutual understanding.
