The project addressed societal and environmental challenges. Its objectives included 1) To develop a student-centred, innovative, intensive science, arts and humanities European-wide course for HEI students and other stakeholders. The courses combined real-world and collaborative online learning. 2) To build upon existing networks (such as RESEO & EUSEA) in order to increase the transdisciplinarity of such networks to include educators and entrepreneurs for them to collaborate on innovative projects and research initiatives that improve the health, well-being and cohesiveness of EU society & its environment. 3)To encourage the concepts of design and systems thinking, co-creative approaches, entrepreneurship, the creative economy, and innovation amongst educators, professionals, HEI students and academics to impact the wider community and environment. 4)To build a culture of transdisciplinarity that highlights the benefits of cooperation between different fields, which is reflective of inclusive and sustainable societies; 5) To embed inclusivity and diversity mechanisms, active citizenship, citizen science and participatory research approaches, European Green Deal values, and SDGs ( 3–5, 11, 13, 16– 16–17).
Post-COVID-19, access to quality education and innovative transdisciplinary approaches have been key to Europe's recovery. The ScicultureD project helped tackle "wicked problems" like climate change, education, and pandemics at community and education levels by bringing diverse groups of people together to foster creativity and implement impactful solutions. More specifically, the project addressed complex challenges felt in local communities and fostered collaboration among HEIs, NGOs, and SMEs specializing in STEM, public engagement, and creative innovation. SciCultureD developed a student-centered, intensive training course blending science, arts, and entrepreneurship with design, systems, and creative thinking to connect disciplines and foster transdisciplinarity. This five-day program used embodied dialogue and learning-by-doing to unite HEI students, researchers, educators, and professionals that are brought together using design, systems, creative and future thinking approaches in an open ended educative approach with the ultimate aim to aid diverse groups of people to work together to address major societal and environmental challenges, with focus around the European Green Deal and SDGs (3–5, 11, 13, 16–17).
