Objectives

We wanted to create green awareness: we want learners, parents and staff to be aware of their current sustainable awareness and have them actively involved to improve it. Increase our total ecological footprint together. We wanted to improve our education on at least two key points: our learners have gained more media wisdom (save digital skills) and our staff is digitally skilled: when to use which application and how to use it. We wanted to give all our learners to chance to take part in international orientation and get the oppertunity to have authentic learning experience: making them tolerant, understanding, democratic and responsible citizents. Sintermeerten wants to have a situation of social inclusion for all learners: all students have the same oppertunities to explore the world, immerge in another culture and become a tolerant world citizen.

Background

The Sintermeertencollege is located in Heerlen and faces some demographical challenges: we have to actively respond to the continuing decline in numbers of pupils in our region and as a former mining area we live in one the poorest areas in the Netherlands. Our Generation Green project is for a small group a pupils who will spread their gained knowledge to other pupils, family etc. The project is focusing on living sustainable, international orientation, learning from each other, providing staff and pupils with better digital skills and this is all given shape around sustainibility.
