Objectives

With the vast majority of Maastricht University (UM) students coming from Europe, many Europe-focused study programmes, research institutes, the top-scoring European University alliance YUFE and unique initiatives such as Studio Europa Maastricht (SEM) that foster public debate on European topics, UM regards itself as the European university of the Netherlands. An active participation in the Erasmus+ KA131 programme forms a key pillar to maintain and expand this European profile. The objective of UM’s participation in the Erasmus+ KA131 call 2021 was twofold: 1. Expand students’ and staff’ access to Erasmus+ mobility opportunities (in Europe and beyond). This as interest among UM students to participate in the programme has steadily grown over the past years; 2. To further optimize UM’s project administration via a centralized Erasmus+ Student Mobility Office, covering all six UM faculties The participation of UM staff and students in the Erasmus+ programme broadly also serves other UM objectives. For example, it supports the enhancement of employability and professional development of UM staff and its students, and strengthens the international composition and outlook of the whole academic community.
