Objectives

With this Erasmus+ subsidy we want to give a boost to the development of SOL units in different countries becoming SOL 2.0 forward-looking learning centers. The creation of a forward-looking learning center takes several years. We received the SOL 2.0 Erasmus+ subsidy to experiment with one practical example (describing best practices on the effects of developing a learning culture in profit and non-profit organizations) as if this was solved by a SOL 2.0 forward-looking learning center. We focussed ourselves on the research question: “Does the creation of a learning culture in an organization leads automatically to Life Long Developing and / or up-skilling pathways? And if so, what are its characteristics?”

Background

Besides organizational needs, we as the Society for Organizational Learning (SOL) see a need coming up for the (collective) solving of societal problems. From a local initiative of residents who want to set up a communal playground for their kids to international collective initiatives to stop climate change. Collective learning is not easy, but it is, in our SOL eyes, the only sustainable solution to deal effectively with change. SOL can play an important role in solving these (societal) problems because SOL is no stakeholder, is knowledgeable and is not focussed on the result but only on the learning process towards the solution, ambition or challenge. The same need for learning how to learn is coming up in organizations, both profit and non-profit. They experience that the pace of change often is too fast to control, let alone, to use it as an asset. Many organizations are not able to attract and attain good staff. And a lot of these organizations are not innovative enough to make the necessary difference.
