Objectives

A group of young people wants to transform Rotterdam into a more inclusive city. The idea is simple - create safe spaces for dialogue between diverse groups of young people about things that matter to them. Then, we would decide together about the changes we want to see being implemented and start a dialogue with the decision makers that have the power to make those happen. Our methodology is participatory theatre. It is a simple approach, accessible to all, and, therefore, more inclusive. It comprehends a structure that transforms the setting into a place that is safe to express different opinions, promote active listening and foster mutual understanding and connection. Participants can express themselves in various ways, do real time “simulations” and become active agents for change. The project aimed: To create spaces for social dialogue and youth participation in Rotterdam, and to motivate youth to keep on actively participating in local and national democratic activities. Project goals are the following: -Encouragement of youth from fewer opportunities to create and manage their own social projects, increasing their competences to do so and their sense of initiative -Solidification of competencies regarding the production of performances from participatory theatre that encourage fruitful dialogue - Development of new tools for dialogue and policy creation, that are truly inclusive and accessible to all -Increase the motivation of youth in Rotterdam to participate in events where they can discuss their ideas for new policies and delivered those to the ones with immediate power for change -Development of communication skills of youth in participation in dialogue - verbal and non verbal communication, active listening, presentation skills -Exchanging diverse of points of view, personal stories and encourage the understanding of other people that are different from us -Have meaningful and important discussions about social themes relevant to youth -Readiness in terms of competences and mindset for youth to act when confronted with unfair situations, contributing for a more equal society. -Increasing the cohesion and solidarity between diverse groups of young people, as well as extension of networks -Promotion of the summer school 2DO and encourage new youth with fewer opportunities to join in the next editions -Learn the value of diversity and reduce discrimination -Collaboration between different local organisations and youth, bringing more future opportunities for youth from diverse backgrounds
