Through the project we wanted our students and teachers to expand their cultural and lingual knowledge. We wanted them to look beyond their nationalities, and more into their identity as European citizens in a global world. Furthermore, we wanted them to become aware of their own cultural background (and bias). Through cooperation with the recipient school and teachers the overall goal is that the participants increase their cultural understanding and contribute to upholding essential European values, and also values in the Erasmus quality standard: especially inclusion, diversity and active participation in the Erasmus network.
Our upper secondary school has about 1000 students, and 300 staff. We currently offer vocational and general studies, and also adult and special education. Our school is situated in an affluent municipality, but our student body is diverse. In recent years we have seen several waves of migrants through Europe. Our drama department wanted to create a project with that as a background and use the create process to look at democratic participation, citizenship and how to be a responsible world citizen in the recent refugee crises.
