The training course “Media and its Effect on Youth” gathered 28 youth workers from Norway, Georgia, Greece, Armenia, Croatia, Lithuania, and Italy. The project took place in Kobuleti, Georgia, and was hosted by YCG. The youth workers gathered in Georgia with the common value of raising awareness about media literacy and gaining essential competencies for fighting disinformation. The background that inspired us to implement this training course is related to the current critical situation media consumption is causing. It is commonly acknowledged that young people spend a lot of time each day consuming media. Yet, they are typically unprepared for deliberate media consumption since they have not been taught how to navigate the media haze, choose quality information, or understand messages. This significantly affects young society when the media is not understood correctly. Youth workers should take this responsibility for preparing youth due to the reason that such information is typically not implemented in public schools. Unfortunately, most of the time, youth workers themselves struggle with inadequate training materials and knowledge for teaching media literacy, whether formally or informally. By organizing this project, we aimed to raise awareness about the importance of media and the correct interpretation of received information. Additionally, we aimed to raise awareness of misinformation, bias, and fake news. The project's main objective was to enable the participating youth workers to help the young people they work with to be more conscious of media consumers and to analyze the information they receive critically. The training course “Media And Its Effect On Youth” had the following primary outcomes: - Improved critical thinking competencies and analysis of media messages; - Raised awareness on media-related issues in 7 countries, among youth, local communities, etc. -Gained essential knowledge about fake news and misinformation on social media; - Developed new abilities, methodologies, and tools for taking media literacy-related new initiatives; - Improved inter-cultural learning skills and behaviors; - Enhanced international networking and communication; - Developed media literacy skills & competencies; - Improved knowledge of media's influence on the youth; - Enhanced discussing and debating skills of participants, etc, - Raised tolerance among different nationalities.
