Objectives

Thanks to the implementation of the mobilities project, we wanted to achieve 4 main objectives: 1. Developing the competences of adult education staff who provides trainings in inclusion, diversity and tolerance. 2. Increasing the competences of POLIN Museum staff in the field of training adults – parents, guardians and educators – in the safe transfer of knowledge about the Holocaust to children and adolescents. 3. Increasing the competences of adult education staff dealing with education about the culinary heritage of Polish Jews. 4. Development of competences of the managerial staff of sections dealing with adult education. By achieving these objectives, we wanted to expand and improve the Museum’s educational offer for adults. Adult education at the POLIN Museum is to respond to social and civic needs and contribute to preventing discrimination and building a society open to diversity. We also want to teach the ability to draw conclusions from the past in order to build a better present and future.

Background

The POLIN Museum is a modern cultural institution whose mission is to restore the memory of the history of Polish Jews, but also to prevent prejudice and exclusion. We treat the thousand-year history of the Jewish inhabitants of Poland as a reference point for understanding contemporary problems and a tool for shaping openness and respect for diversity. It is very important for us not only to educate children and teenagers, but also adults who influence the attitudes of young people with their behavior. Due to the specificity of the issues dealt with by the POLIN Museum, it requires educators to be exceptionally sensitive and able to work with difficult topics. That is why we want the adult education staff to be able to constantly develop, e.g. learning from other institutions involved in popularizing heritage, including the culinary culture of minorities, anti-discrimination education and promoting diversity and tolerance. We want our educational offer to take into account the needs of people with disabilities and migrants - when creating it, we draw on the best models offered by European cultural institutions.
