New learning and teaching methods and approachesInitial and continuous training for teachers, trainers and other education staffTeaching and learning of foreign languages

Objectives

Through participation in the project, we wanted to modernise the work and language skills of the staff in order to educate creative and enterprising people, aware of the reality around them, able to face the problems of tomorrow, equipped with the social principles needed to function in a global economy and diverse society. We wanted to internationalise the school by travelling abroad with students and staff to make new friends/partners, to gain experience working in an international/multicultural environment, to teach in an interdisciplinary way using the project method, to gain knowledge and new competences in courses and trainings, to learn from observations of work in European schools. By implementing the results into school practice in the curriculum, we wanted to naturally prevent routine and counteract staff burnout and boredom in lessons. We expected this to raise the school's prestige, have a positive impact on the pupils, enhance their sense of self-worth, make the school's educational offer more attractive.

Background

A non-public school located in a small town, which is also attended by young people from a rural environment, is forced to ensure continuous innovation and attractiveness compared to the public school offer. The school, which is not financed from the state budget in the same way, has to raise extra-budgetary funds on its own for its activities and the further training of its staff. The project involves equipping staff with attractive teaching methods, based on ICT and knowledge of foreign languages, at least one - English and/or German, taking into account the achievements of neurodidactics. This is necessary due to the average age of staff of 51 and average length of work of 23 years, and the associated professional burnout, routine and unsatisfactory knowledge of English among teachers of subjects other than foreign languages, and thus low activity in engaging in international projects. The project reinforced the need to improve the linguistic and methodological competences of staff from the point of view of implementing international projects. Participation in the project was intended to support staff in the change process and to raise awareness of opportunities for school development.
