Founded in 1816, the University of Warsaw is the largest university in Poland, one of the best scientific centres in the country, belonging to 3% of the best universities in the world. Since the beginning of its existence, the UW has played a crucial role in the intellectual, cultural, economic and political life of the country. The UW has actively participated in a variety of European Union educational programmes, including the Erasmus+ Programme, starting in 1998. Joining the project was aimed at supporting learning mobility of students and staff by offering the possibility to study and/or gain professional experience in programme countries to students, doctoral candidates as well as other university non-academic staff members. As far as student mobility is concerned, the main objectives of the project were focused on the following areas: - enhancing students’ academic performance; - increasing employability and career opportunities; - fostering independence and self esteem; - boosting foreign language skills; - raising intercultural awareness; - developing knowledge about EU projects and EU values. In order to achieve these goals, 975 outgoing mobilities were envisaged to take place (526-SMS; 125 SMT; 130 STT; 194 STA).
