Objectives

Together with our partner groups from Romania, Cyprus, Italy and Lithuania, we pointed out that, since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the main problems we may face, both today and in the future, is limited interpersonal communication. Due to the situation in the world, most of us are forced to work or study remotely, and all social activities have been largely transferred to the virtual sphere. Thus, the way of communicating has also changed and we are currently trying to find ourselves in a new reality, often dependent on technology and internet connection. Through our project, we drew the attention of young people to the essence of cultivating communication skills in the offline world. Inspired by the insights of Tricia Jones, professor at the American University of Klein, who describes the importance of skilful communication in pandemic times (https://news.temple.edu/news/2020-09-16/coronavirus-pandemic-has-madecommunication- more-important-ever), we took care of our competences in the above-mentioned scope and shared the conclusions from the work on them with a wider group. Our main goal was to focus on developing offline communication without the use of electronic devices. We put special emphasis on multicultural dialogue, on building statements both in native and foreign languages, and on non-verbal communication, which is irrelevant in the virtual sphere and is important to us. The main goal of our project was also to give the members of our organizations a chance for development, because we believe that they will continue to build our organizations, develop local communities, actively co-create new projects, both local and international. Taking into account the current situation in the world, communication skills seem to us to be a natural response to a problem and an ideal leitmotiv of such a project, as they enable all participants to acquire new competences useful in private and professional life. Especially in the last year, we have had difficulties working in teams because it is extremely complicated remotely. Therefore, in order to be able to develop as a group, we needed space and meeting. In addition, one of the goals of the program was to strive to improve our skills, and this is exactly what has been achieved. We realized that communication is important at every level of our life, and thanks to cultivating this competence, we believed that European youth would be better prepared to conduct international dialogue. We also believe that learning and exercising communication skills will not only end with our project, and the exchange itself will inspire participants to further self-development. We also believe that during our project we familiarized many young people with the idea of non-formal education and learned from each other new activities or methods of work.
