Our goal was to give young Europeans a sense of connection to their roots and culture. We came out of the conviction that there are noticeable deficiencies in the formal education system when it comes to learning about the Slavs. Of course, this is largely due to the lack of reliable sources of knowledge about our cultural cradle, but having learned from the experience of the first edition of this project, we know that despite this, there are opportunities to explore customs, beliefs and traditions that have survived to this day or have a particular impact on today's reality. In addition to the lack of awareness and knowledge of our origins and the sources of our identity, we also paid attention to the broader dimension of this problem - in order to be fully participating in the European community, we need to understand the history and values that unite our countries - the Slavic countries - that are an essential part of it. Referring to the experience we went through in 2020 with young people from the Czech Republic and Croatia, we decided to expand the group of countries participating in the exchange, adding partner organizations from Slovakia and Bulgaria. In this way, we expanded the representation of Western Slavs (CZK, SK) and Southern Slavs (BG, HR). This allowed us to diversify the group of male and female participants, learn new aspects of Slavic identity and see even better the similarities and differences in our daily lives. The aim of the exchange was above all that which is transparent: the integration of people from seemingly different countries, who nevertheless share an important common ground, mutual knowledge, discovery, understanding. However, through diverse working methods and the nature of the activities, we intended not only to establish strong bonds, but also to learn from each other - to develop our hard skills (handicrafts, gastronomy) and soft skills (group work, presentation, story-telling). Our mission is to provide young people from all over Europe with a unique, quality educational experience, and we believe that the Equinox exchange is just that - a unique theme, a unique combination of people and countries, and a quality source of skill and knowledge development.
