Our commune is a rural commune with about 4,000 inhabitants, located near the famous seaside resort - Rewal. However, karnice hides many historical secrets, many stories, many elements of regional, multicultural (Polish-German) cultural heritage that are just waiting to be discovered. It is thanks to these elements, thanks to the stories hidden in the corners of Karnice, together with young people from our school and young people from a partner organization, we managed to create a project that will open the door to discovering our common historical roots, will allow us to break down barriers, stereotypes, discovering common elements of cultural heritage, increasing the opportunities of young people from rural areas. The genesis of the idea came from young people. Our commune has had a summer theater for three years, where various artistic performances take place, attended by many residents of the commune. It was the performances that took place there that inspired us to dialogue about our passions, dreams, and educational aspects. Starting with the idea for theater workshops, discussing with the actors, young people who came, both ours and those from abroad, the final idea of the project was born. Big story of a small town is a project that allowed young people to turn into detectives and discover local culture, history, arouse the desire to look for what is interesting and good in the immediate surroundings. It also allowed for learning to share these discoveries, and enhanced cultural expression and awareness. It also made it possible to discover the culture of the partner countries. We often look for new sensations by going to distant lands, discovering foreign cultures, not knowing the history of our surroundings, which can be fascinating, revealing, giving a different look at the world around us. As we know, understanding one's own culture while discovering a foreign one is the key to understanding, building attitudes of tolerance, understanding the idea of multiculturalism. During the 9-day youth exchange from Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania, which took place in our commune, various types of workshops were held, ranging from cultural, through historical, to theatrical workshops. Our project focused mainly on working methods related to art and theatre. During the creation of the project, we also cooperated with the actors of the Janowo Artistic Village, which is located in our commune, and where our project took place, and the final happening will be prepared. The main event that we wanted to realize together with our friends was the staging of a performance for the local community in our municipal cultural center entitled "Big story of small town" in four languages: Polish, English, Czech and Lithuanian. This event was significant for our small local community. It made it possible to break down barriers and stereotypes, broaden horizons, discover local history, and discover cultural treasures on our land. The goals of the project are: to increase cultural awareness and expression among young people from Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania and the inhabitants of our commune, to combat stereotypes, to promote international cooperation and tolerance, to equalize opportunities for young people from rural areas, also from the environment at risk of poverty. The goals of our project translated into the priorities of the Erasmus+ program, because the project equalized opportunities, developed cultural awareness and expression, allowed to gain new knowledge, experience, develop and discover talents. The exchange took place in our commune, in the Janowo Artistic Village, which has accommodation, sanitary and catering facilities, provides space for workshops, classes, and provided a safe atmosphere.
