Objectives

The climate crisis is the most serious threat we face. It brings enormous harm not only to the environment, biodiversity, animal welfare, but above all, to human life and health. Today, we are already experiencing the impact of climate change in the form of floods, droughts, heatwaves, storms, and other extreme weather events, which - if adequate measures are not taken - will intensify in the coming years. We draw attention to the social and environmental issues related to ongoing climate change and their impact on the phenomenon of climate refugees. Our guiding idea was to build climate-aware communities that are familiar with both the real threats associated with climate change and the possibilities of acting to protect it. Understanding the global interdependencies and consequences of climate change in various economic, social, and geographic contexts is intended to motivate taking actions to protect our planet based on values such as solidarity, equality, and justice. We aimed to demonstrate the possibilities of individual and collective action for climate protection. To achieve this, we need high-quality information based on credible sources from which young people will draw reliable knowledge about the causes and effects of climate change. Additionally, we equipped young people with the skills to distinguish fake news from credible news and create their own media materials that address climate change in an accurate manner. We believe that collective learning, the exchange of experiences, and the project's outcomes (we prepared an educational e-book, developed a plan for behavioral change in our local communities in the form of demands) will help us become not only informed citizens but also ambassadors of pro-environmental actions. Furthermore, we want to have a greater impact on what happens in our environment, not be afraid to engage in conversations with residents and authorities, initiate actions that will benefit the environment, and strengthen a sense of shared responsibility. We aim to boldly confront pro-environmental challenges, educate our peers about ecological behaviors through discussions, displaying videos, posters, and thematic displays. The specific objectives of the project were: - How to persuade others to take action in favor of environmental protection within their scope of influence. - How to be a conscious citizen in this matter every day. - How to become more active in pro-environmental initiatives. - Raising awareness about environmentally friendly behaviors, especially in the context of waste prevention and resource conservation. - Strengthening the socio-political engagement of young people and enhancing their skills in the field of climate and environmental protection. - Creating a space that allows young people to present their insights, including proposals for solutions to the needs of the natural environment, to local and governmental authorities. - Reinforcing soft skills and awareness of diversity by including youth with fewer opportunities, particularly those from rural areas. - Contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 - Quality Education, Goal 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, and Goal 13 - Climate Action. The project aimed to familiarize participants with the consequences of climate change globally and in our immediate surroundings, as well as the potential for personal influence to mitigate or reduce these consequences on both a local and global scale. The project serves as an invitation to engage in discussions about climate change from various perspectives and for different audiences, including school and local communities. By actively participating in initiatives for school, local, or national communities, we build a sense of responsibility and provide opportunities for action. Through this approach, we can see that each individual has the power to make a positive impact on the world. The project activities focused on raising awareness that individuals are not passive in the face of ongoing climate change and its impact on the surrounding environment. Each negative action contributes to changes in the environment that ultimately affect us. An essential aspect of the entire undertaking was to generate interest and increase knowledge about climate and environmental protection based on scientific facts and research, illustrating how our environment changes with increasing environmental pollution. Climate change affects everyone, so it is crucial to explain to children and young people from an early age that we have an impact on the environment, and only through our actions can the catastrophic situation in the world be changed. To achieve this, collaboration was vital, forming the basis for all our project activities. Participants recognized the need for comprehensive education on ecology and consumer awareness.
